Laboratory errors, mistakes and failures have a huge impact on patient care and also on the laboratory business. This is simply because the effects of our laboratory errors now attract headlines and it is of great public concern. Understanding the role of quality and how to implement a quality management system is a necessity to help detect errors quickly before they lead to devastating or catastrophic consequences. In addition, the International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO) – ISO 15189 standards, places quality at the heart of all activities by ensuring that all aspects of quality within a quality management system function correctly

The course provides useful information on the functions of a quality management system by giving examples of ISO 9000, ISO 9001 and ISO 15189 standards. The course is intended to support personal development and acquisition of skills which can be put into use in the workplace.
